Big Brother 9 House Guest Alex Coladonato - "I want you to know that I'm doing this for you"
CBS Big Brother 9 premieres on Tuesday, February 12th. This season there are 16 new houseguests. That's a first for Big Brother. The showmances and backstabbing will be brought to a whole new level since there's a twist in place that pairs up the unknowing house guests as couples. The pairs have been complied based on the house guests personalities, along with questionnaires that each filled out during their audition process. These Big Brother pairs will be forced to compete together, sleep together, be nominated together, and if they aren't careful be evicted together. One new Big Brother 9 house guest is Alex Coladonato, a 24 year old, DJ and Production Company owner from Staten Island, New York. Fortunately for us, right here at BigBrotherUpdates, his best friend John (known on our forums as JohnnyTremz) is one of our long time members. Needless to say John, as we now loving know him, is extremely excited for his best friend Alex. John and Alex went through the Big Brother auditions together and ultimately Alex made it onto the show. I've had the extreme pleasure to be able to talk with John as he sheds some light on Alex as a person, his game plan that they developed that he'll carry into the house, who he thinks Alex's perfect match might be, how he might have to shield Alex's mom's eyes if he teams up with the "cougar" of this season- Big Brother houseguest Shelia Kennedy, the 45 year old, former Penthouse model, and what his thoughts are on how the twists and turns of this season might help or hinder Alex's chances to become the winner of Big Brother 9. John- Hey Lexie
Lexie - Hey John! Thanks for agreeing to talk with me about your friend Alex Coladonato – one of the new houseguests on Big Brother 9! Are your feet touching the ground yet? Are you ready to do this?
John- yea let's rock
Lexie – ok! - of course I'd like to get the skinny on how you know Alex - when you met him?
John - We met back in freshman year in college roughly 7 years ago. I met him a few weeks after 9-11. I was working in the club business back then and Alex offered me a job with his company.
Lexie - Ah yes 9-11 after the lost of his dad. I know that you were hoping to get on Big Brother too and that you and Alex went together through the interview process - and I know that you've schooled him so to speak on just about every aspect of the Big Brother. Is Alex as big a fan of the game as you?
John - As big of a fan? No... but a big fan yes. Not many people take this game as seriously as I do.
Lexie – We’ve talked before and you told me that before Alex was taken away to sequester - that you and he talked about the game, the house, and what strategies that he could implement once he was in the house. As a Big Brother fan that takes this game seriously - what do you think was the best piece of advice that you gave him that will help him now that he's in the house?
John - Well we developed a very elaborate plan that we felt would work best for him in the house. I'll get into more details on that in a little bit. But the last thing I said to him before he left was - Always remember it’s just a game. "Don’t ever let emotion come into play." As far as the plan it would go like this... He would find one person in the house from the very beginning someone you wouldn’t expect himself to align with. Alex suggested someone from Boston because of the hate between the two cities. (Expect him to do this with Matt from this season) This would be the only person that knows the master plan. They then would each grab one more person, making the final 4. Then Alex and his partner and Boston and his partner would each grab 2 more people each. Telling each group of 4 that they were the final 4. This ensures that Alex has options and can switch from side to side how he sees fit basically calling the shots from the top. First getting rid of the outsiders not in the 8... and then picking off whatever side they feel is right at the time.
Lexie - How do you think that this new twist in the game will affect Alex's game plan? He'll be paired up with someone - someone that "might" be an emotional mate with him - someone that from what we know so far - he'll have to work with to get further in the game. He won't be able to pick and chose his partner - and even let's say for example Matt's partner - so that's two choices that he won't get to make as far as selecting people to play the game with. How do you think he handle that?
John - That’s a good point Lexie. It’s all I've been thinking about since I saw what the twist is. He has to be able to think well under pressure and adapt. Hopefully he created a bond with Matt before the twist was revealed.
John - I've said before the first few weeks in the house deal with a lot of luck.
Lexie - You're right luck has a huge part in the beginning of the game. Do you think there's any chance that he'll let his emotions guide him the wrong way in this - since from the start he'll be forced to get close and stay close to someone that's been chosen as a "perfect match" or a "soul mate" for him?
John - Well he has a huge heart. So it’s possible but I think he knows he has to be focused and not trust anyone.
Lexie- We've seen a small glimpse of Alex with the promos and commercials that CBS has released. I'd like to get a more up close personal look at Alex-as his best friend what can you tell me about him that America should know?
John - He's an amazing person who always puts other people in front of him. He is a hard worker who doesn’t take anything in life for granted. He is single and looking for all the ladies out there (laughs) we are open to double dates after the show.
Lexie ( laughs) I bet! When Alex found out that he made it as a Big Brother 9 Finalist - what was the first thing he said to you?
John - "I want you to know I'm doing this for you"
Lexie- Ahhh… Was he upset that you being the bigger fan - didn't make it?
John – Ya I think he hoped the whole time that there would be some twist that would put me there with him. But if there’s anyone that could be there in my place I'm glad it’s him.
Lexie - He sounds like he's a great friend and I'm sure that we'll all grow to love him on the show. Let me go back to the twist of this new season of Big Brother 9 and the problems that it creates for Alex.
Here’s what we know so far about the twist
When this group of 16 singles enters the house, they will be told they are being matched up with their "soul mate", a stranger who may prove to be their true love or their worst nightmare. Whether there is a love connection or not, once paired up, the Houseguests' life in the game depends on their partner. They must strategize, plot and scheme together as a couple for a chance at the prize. These "lovebirds" will live together as a couple meaning they will sleep in the same bed, hold Head of Household as a couple, be nominated for eviction as a pair, and if the time comes, say their goodbyes together upon eviction.
In an interview with Julie Chen she said: We are deciding who gets coupled up with who and we are telling the 16 strangers - guess what - you're not gonna go it alone. You are being forced to play this game as a pair with someone that we have paired you up with based on personality tests that they've taken - questionnaires that they've filled out. We think that we might be forming a love connection. You have to compete as a couple, sleep as a couple, if you get nominated - you are nominated as a couple. If you get evicted - you are evicted as a couple. These people come in knowing that it's not gonna be - oh here are some strangers that you are gonna be forced to live with. They've grown to expect a twist and the best part is revealing the twist. You know - kinda let them know the details slowly - you know I'll deliver the line so it's "so you think this is happening - but it's really this that's happening. This season there will no doubt be high drama because we are coupling people together. And, think about functioning as a couple - what comes in to play? Your heart, jealously, competitiveness with each other and others. I mean it's just a recipe for disaster in some cases (she laughs) or will love conquer all - we'll see.
Lexie- I’m not sure of the personalities of any of the girls in the house (other than what I've been able to dig up on them or see through the CBS profiles/promos) - Is Alex a quick on his feet kinda guy - let's say if he gets paired with a girl that's initially hated by everyone- do you think he has the capability to redirect any harm that another player might bring to his game?
John - Well yes because he will be well liked by everyone that’s his biggest strength. Everyone likes him. He will open up his game way too early if he has to protect his partner or should I say is forced to protect her. But in this game you may only get one chance at life so he will do what he has to do and put on the charm a little early if need be.
Lexie – Personally, I think that will be the biggest challenge of this game- unlike any other Bif Brother before. Having to deal outright with a partner that you didn't chose, having to depend upon their game and their emotions especially with the threat of being nominated and evicted not because of something that you did in the game but because of the circumstances of the whole 'Til Death Do You Part twist. I know that you have said that Alex is really close with his family - especially his mom- do you think that he'll be drawn to the "cougar" – which is Sheila Kennedy, the 45 year old , former Penthouse model from Reseda, California - this season ?
John - Haha it’s really funny you say that. I don’t think he would be drawn to her in a "mom" sort of way. But Alex won’t be shy about flirting with an older woman that’s for sure. If she goes for him... I may have to warn Alex's mom not to watch that night (laughs)
Lexie (laughs) poor mom! If you could pick any one of the girls for Alex to be paired up with (based on the little that you know of them of course) which one would you think would be his perfect match in this game?
John - Well I don’t know enough about them yet to actually say who I think would be great for him but I can tell you that based on their CBS bios I think they paired him up with Jen.
Lexie- Why Jen?
John - She loves to party, he does parties for a living. She is an education major; he is getting his masters in education. She has a turtle.. he has 5. Plus looks wise... I think they match well together don’t you think?
Lexie - Based on all of that they do seem like they would match up perfectly! However, isn't she the one that is rumored to have a relationship outside of the BB house with Ryan another Big Brother 9 houseguest?
John - Yes she is... That could hurt him or help him. Depends how smart Ryan is. Or Jen for that matter
Lexie - I agree it could be a huge advantage for Alex and his game plan if Ryan and/or Jen are smart enough to see the big picture and the potential in pairing up with Alex ( secretly of course) that would give Alex what he needs as allies in the house.
John - Exactly. But if Jen and Ryan let the cat out of the bag. Alex immediately becomes a target by default.
Lexie - So, true! So - fingers-crossed that if she is his partner that they will play it smart! Again, I know we know very little about the guys in the house -but based on first impressions - which guy do you think Alex will clash with?
John - Alex tends to get along with all guys. Someone like Matt could be his biggest partner or could end up being his biggest enemy. Simply because he may try to "one up" Alex. Sometimes people's egos get in the way of good judgment. If Matt feels there’s only room for one Alpha male in the house that could stir up trouble. If he feels Alex and him could do damage together than watch out they will be tough to beat.
Lexie - Sounds like a good plan - keeping him close. Are there any pet-peeves that Alex has that he'll have to try to control while in the house? Something that we'll need to watch for?
John - He hates people who don’t smile and look miserable. It will piss him off and he will go after them. He also is going to want to sing because he loves music. I can see Big Brother yelling at him a lot for that. Another thing is he sleeps like he’s in a coffin it’s really funny. Doesn’t snore... doesn’t move... arms folded (laughs)
Lexie – (laughs) oh he's gonna be "that one" the ones that the live feeders hate! “ALEX STOP SINGING” As for the sleeping like he’s in a coffin – we’ve seen that before with the retired FBI Agent Jack Owens in Season 4. He slept the same way - it was eerie watching him - thanks for the heads up!
John- Well let’s spin it in a way the live feeders will love him. He only needs like 4 hours of sleep... literally. So expect him to be a late night person. And be up every morning bright and early.
Lexie - I'm sure we'll love watching him sleep in any position! Oh and the live feed watchers absolutely love those night owls who are also early morning risers- good camera time and a lot of one on one time with the live feeders. That's a plus in my book!
John - Ya he won’t be sitting in bed all day that’s for sure.
Lexie - Is there anything else that you'd like to tell the Big Brother fans about Alex?
John - Just support him and fall for him because he is someone that will entertain you all season long and will be easy to root for. One more thing before I let you go - we talked about Alex's mom being a huge Big Brother fan - how excited is his family now that he's on the show? Did they offer up any words of advice for him?
John- Oh god Lexie... the day Alex left was one of the most emotional days I've been involved with in a long time. His family loves him so much. The support and love everyone has for him here is incredible. I'm sure you will see all of them on TV the first episode. We are going to Alex's house to watch the premier together so it should be really great.
Lexie - Thanks John! We certainly look forward to getting to know Alex this season, watching him carry out "the game plan" in the house and hopefully seeing him standing at the end as the winner of BB9.
