Lexie - Justin - We found out by watching the live feeds that you didn't apply for BB4. Exactly how were you approached by the Big Brother producers and how much time did you have to give them an answer before it was time to be sequestered?
Justin - Correct, I didn't apply. I received a cold call from a producer exclaiming that they possible wanted to put me on TV in a reality show. It seemed a little fishy at first, but before long I didn't even really care why or how they got my name just so long as they did. So I got the cold call and less then a week later I was taken to LA for the finals of the casting process. One week after that I found myself kidnapped in a hotel in LA getting ready to enter the house.
Lexie - Did you watch BB before you were approached?
Justin - No, I had never seen or heard of Big Brother before I was approached.
Lexie - Was the reality of being in the house more or less of what you expected it to be?
Justin - While at the finals they gave us tapes of season 3. So I watched the entire season and found it to be a little bit different then what actually goes on. Mostly there was just way more down time then I had imagined.
Lexie - Did you have any expectations on how you would handle being confined in the BB house? And, once you were in the house what happened that you didn't expect?
Justin - I wasn't sure how I was going to handle being in the house. I think that I was a little bit naive to some of the rules. I had totally forgotten that there would be no radio or music. That was probably the biggest slap in the face. I knew I wouldn't go nuts, but I knew that there were going to be some things that got on my last nerves, considering there was no where to go when you wanted to get away from things. It was around every corner. Literally.
Lexie - What did your friends and family think of your decision to be on BB4?
Justin - For the most part they all thought it was great. My friends got a kick out of it, especially since they learned that Ali was going to be in the house. My parents loved it. My mom taped every episode and my father had a party three times a week (every time it was on).
Lexie - Other than being away from your loved ones, what was the most difficult thing for you to handle in the house?
Justin - Other then being away from my loved ones, the thing I missed most was definitely music and going out.
Lexie - After you left the house, were you surprised by the amount of attention that the show and you received?
Justin - I was so surprised at the attention the show got, mostly considering that I never heard of the show before it started. But I was impressed with the ratings it received and the positive feedback that I received from everyone in regards to the show.
Lexie - What is the most memorable experience that you walked away with from being in the BB4 house?
Justin - My most memorable moment that I will walk away with is definitely the opportunity to meet such amazing people. I still keep in touch with Jee, Dana, and Robert on a daily basis. Between the three of them, I feel that their friendship is more valuable to me then the end prize.
Lexie - What was the funniest moment in the house for you?
Justin - My funniest moment in the house had to be when Jee got hammered the day of the Champaign luxury competition (w/ the spinning chair). When we were trying to throw the entire chair in the pool with Jee passed out on it. Or that same day when Jack took a nose dive into the ground after getting off of the spinning chair.
Lexie - Was it difficult to return back to your life after the show or has the experience of being on the show been a positive factor in your daily life?
Justin - I think that the transition back to normal life was a little difficult, but not too bad. I didn't want to make the transition which probably made it that much harder. But I definitely feel that the experience has had a positive effect on my life since its been over.
Lexie - On the show you talked about moving in with Robert, is that something that you are still considering?
Justin - My plans to move in with Robert are actually still in place. The original plan was to move in on Jan 1, because I thought that I was going to get back in time to finish up with my classes. But when I got back the semester was already half way over. So my first priority is to get my degree finished with, then it's off to LA.
Lexie - If you could go back and do it over again - would you and is there anything that you would change as far as your alliances in the house go?
Justin - Most likely I would do it again. I certainly would do everything in my power to be a Nathan, Jack or Dana because they didn't have ex's in the house. As for my alliances, I wouldn't change them for anything. I would certainly hope that they wouldn't be foolish enough to try to start an alliance of 8 people right in the beginning when no one knows anybody. That is always something that I wish never happened.
Lexie - After watching the tapes, were you surprised by any one particular person or one particular thing that someone did that you weren't aware of while you were in the house?
Justin - After watching the tapes I was upset at all the personal attacks that took place. Mostly by Jun, Ali, and Erika, and even Jack. I understand that being a shallow person is part of the game and a good strategy as well. But I think that the personal attacks that took place in the diary room were uncalled for and just flat out wrong.
Lexie - I know that you have had mixed emotions as far as Alison goes, both in the house and outside of the house since the show is over - when you first saw that she was there with you on the show- what was your initial reaction?
Justin - My initial reaction to Alison being on the show was alot of helpless anger. It only took me a couple of seconds to realize that there was nothing I could do to change things. So I immediately began thinking of the best ways to handle the situation and then just go from there. Sitting down complaining about the whole situation wasn't going to get me anywhere so I just had to get past it as fast as possible.
Lexie - On your BB4 profile you were asked - What weaknesses do you bring to BB? - and you answered - Women always seem to get me in trouble - Do you feel like that you might have gone further in the game if you hadn't of gotten so close with Dana?
Justin - No, I don't feel that the relationship that I had with Dana had anything to do with my departure. If anything I feel that it helped me. It certainly got us past the week of Michelle's eviction, which was a miracle.
Lexie - Also, in your profile you stated that your initial game plan was to - Be sincere and honest as possible, and always keeping focused on my goal. Did you feel like the X factor interfered with your game plan ?
Justin - My initial plan was to be sincere and honest. I don't feel that the ex factor made that too much harder. It was a little bit of a distraction, because
Alison seemed to be campaigning to get me out. Which forced me to change up my plans a little bit, but I was still able to be honest and sincere.
Lexie - How difficult was it being one half of the "X factor" ?
Justin - Being one half of the ex factor was extremely difficult. If you plan on coming into a house of complete strangers then in a sense your starting with a clean slate regardless of what was in your past. A clean slate is a powerful tool that we didn't have the luxury of having. If at any point you tried to put on an act then your ex would be fast to point out your fraud.
Lexie - How difficult was it on a day to day basic to get closer to Dana, while your ex was always watching?
Justin - Dana and I just happened. It wasn't planned by neither of us and I can't put a finger on a specific moment that it all happened. I never really considered Ali an ex of mine, so engaging in another relationship wasn't difficult for me at all.
Lexie - How hard was it to be comfortable in the house, knowing that you were being watched 24/7 by the BB staff and the Live Feed viewers?
Justin - We quickly forgot about the cameras and all of the viewers. Surprisingly everything happened very naturally in the house. It was always in the back of you mind that someone was always watching, but it never really hit home until the show was over and you actually realized how many viewers there were.
Lexie - I know that you and Dana are just friends now - what was that decision based on and do you guys keep in close contact?
Justin - Dana and I both agreed that it was best to just stay friends. Considering the circumstances it wasn't probable that we were going to last if we both remained located where we were. It seemed like a better idea to remain on good terms rather then give it a try and end on bad terms. Yes we still stay in contact.
Lexie - Which competition was your favorite?
Justin - My favorite competition was the laying pipe food competition or the parachute food competition. They were both fun.
Lexie - I bet I know the answer to this one but, which was the worse?
Justin - My worst competition was the clam bake from hell. I had the hardest time eating that nasty nasty shit. I have a pretty weak stomach to begin with, and having to hold down the unseasoned uncooked clams and minnow's, mixed with chili peppers was no easy task.
Lexie - You were a very strong competitor in the house - How difficult was it to sit back and watch the others compete in the Cage Competition, since you could not compete?
Justin - I hated every passing minute while the cage competition was going on. Knowing that my fate was in the hands of someone else wasn't something that I felt comfortable with. I wish so bad that I was able to compete in that competition.
Lexie - If you would have been able to compete and Erika had made you a deal such as she did Jee- would you have accepted it or is that something that you just wouldn't have done?
Justin - I would of never made any deals with Erika in the cage. It was out in the open and I felt that all the deals were already made. And it was a matter of one team verse another.
Lexie - Were you suspicious about the Jun/Jee secret alliance while you were in the house?
Justin - I was told of the alliance between Jee and Jun by Ali. At first I didn't believe it at all. After really giving some thought, I came to the conclusion that I didn't care about there alliance. As long as it didn't effect Robert or me, then I really didn't care. I knew that Jee's loyalty was with us and not
Jun.
Lexie - Do you feel like your alliance with Robert and Jee being so out there in the open made you a bigger target?
Justin - The alliance with Rob and Jee might have made me a bigger target only because I was perceived as the strongest of the three. We were a well known alliance in the house and for a while we controlled the tempo of the game. But as soon as they got a chance to take us down, I knew I would be the first to go. I was willing to accept that responsibility.
Lexie - Speaking of Jee- I know that you guys have gotten together since the show - how is he doing?
Justin - Jee is doing great. He is still living with Carmen in New York. He is back to work and getting ready to finish up with school. He came to Philly once with Carmen and I went up to visit him once as well.
Lexie - Would you consider doing any other Reality based television shows ?
Justin - I would consider anything. Some of the shows out there are a little crazy. I'd love to do something like the real world or road rules. I think that would be unreal.
Lexie - In what way has being on BB4 changed your life?
Justin - Being on BB4 only changed my life for the time being. Other then the connections I made, everything is pretty much the same. People treat me a bit differently I guess, but other then that not too much. I'm sure the connections will go a long way and prove to be priceless. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for.
Lexie - Are you recognized by fans ?
Justin - I do get recognized a good bit. I'm in Pittsburgh, which is a lot different than LA or NY. I will admit that it was a lot more as soon as the show ended as opposed to now. I get recognized a lot when I go out on weekends as opposed to doing random tasks during the week.
Lexie - Have any offers come your way career wise from your appearance on the show?
Justin - No, I have not received any offers since the show.
Lexie - Jack always spoke highly of you while you were on the show and often commented that you would make a good FBI agent - is that something that you might consider in the future?
Justin - Yeah, the FBI is very appealing to me. I would definitely have to find out a lot more about the details of the position before I made any decisions on it.
Lexie - What was it like to do the episode of Yes, Dear?
Justin - Doing the episode of "Yes, Dear" was a dream come true. If I could have it my way, that would be my dream job. A sitcom is the best gig in Hollywood if you ask me. Might not be the greatest money (compared to movies) but its still damn good. It was such a fun environment to be working in.
Lexie - Has being on BB4 and Yes, Dear turned your interest to the entertainment field?
Justin - Being on BB4 and Yes, Dear has definitely opened my eyes up to the industry. It certainly seems like it's within my grasp now. I won't count it out , but at the same time I won't count on it. It would be amazing if things worked out for me in that field.
Lexie- Now for a few -get to know you questions - What's your favorite type of music?
Justin - My favorite type of music is hip hop, but I like alternative as well. Dave Mathews is my favorite by far, but I'm a big fabulous fan too. I can't stand country.
Lexie - Favorite type of movie?
Justin - I like all types of movies. I watched "Confidence" the other day and loved that. I really enjoyed "Chicago" too. Another good one is "A River Runs Through It". There's a wide variety for ya.
Lexie - What do you do for fun?
Justin - For fun, when its nice out I love to golf. It's a passion that I have. It allows me to stay competitive now that wrestling is over. I also love to exercise. I get a lot of enjoyment out of training others as well. It's so rewarding to help someone achieve those kinds of goals. On weekends you can find me at the hottest club on the strip in downtown Pittsburgh. It's a great city and a hell of a lot of fun.
Lexie - What have you enjoyed the most about your experience on BB4?
Justin - Out of this whole experience the thing I've enjoyed most, besides the friends and connections I've made is the fifteen minutes of fame that I've had. It was nice being a rock star for a day, even now that it's over I can say that I know a little bit about what it's like to live like a movie star. The pampering, the attention, the fans its all overwhelming and extremely flattering. Something I'll never take for granted.
Lexie - I know that you have a website in the works - care to give us the inside scoop on that?
Justin - The website will be ready very soon. Any and all are welcome to visit. I'll be able to talk to fans and keep everyone up to date as to what I'm up to these days. Once it's up you can find me at www.justin_giovinco.com
Lexie - Justin, It's been my pleasure to be able to chat with you. Thank you for your time.
