Thanks, Cougar...I was wondering too and, no matter how hard I tried, kept reading that as "Not to be a South American..." and I KNEW THAT wasn't right, but couldn't get any further!!
For me, I think my problem with him is that his written bio, more than any of the others, seems laden with his self-righteous opinions on broad stereotypes which just makes him a lightning rod for comment...the PETA girl's bio didn't say that she thinks all meat eaters are murderers, for example, but here he is with all this name calling, right out of the gate...
His interview definitely comes across differently, though...he's on my pooper list until he proves different.
KimBubbley...South American....that had me crackin up, sorry for confusion....I use the abbreviations thinking that people just know what it means....
I have a short list of faves, going to wait and see how they are with the other HGs and what their strategy is...hoping that some have a strategy this season <fingers crossed>

I think that Dan is a jerk. To us his words..."I really don't care" for him.

I watched his interview and it didn't change my opinion at all. I bristled everytime he qualified women being equal with men with "For the most part..."
Haven't watched his video yet, but my impression was a little different from everyone else. I thought he was an "odd mix"--religious/rap music and summed it up to being young (the rap part) and teaching in a Catholic school (the religious part.)
A lot of people don't like Not here, so that didn't bother me even though I was considering voting for her and have NEVER voted for a Democrat for President.
I don't care for body piercings and tatoos, but I'm a lot older. When I was a child people with tatoos (men, no women had tatoos that I ever heard of) really were the scum of the earth.
My husband and I have been married 3 years, so this is our first presidential election. I have always been a Colin Powell Republican since way before I knew who Colin Powell was and before anyone knew he was a Republican. What that means to me is that I'm fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. My husband claims to be an Independent but he's conservative on a few things I am liberal on (making us both kind of strange, but we are both for gay rights) but he mostly hates all Republicans. I will probably decide whom to vote for in October and keep telling him I'm "undecided" until the last minute.
Honest to God, he could meet me in person as an active mentor in our Catholic youth group, lector and Eucharistic Minister - red hair, blue eyes, freckles - I absolutely look like Holly Hobby as a grown up
Kim, I have always liked you. But, I didn't know you could be my little sister (or daughter, although both my daughters are blond). I figured you for an exotic brunette!

wow! cpamama, you just summed me up, i am the same as you are as far as politics, i am also fiscally conservative, and somewhat socially liberal, i have voted in very election sense i was of age to vote, i am 28 years old, i think it is very important to vote! and i do know who i am voting for! i dont push my views on anyone! and i love everyone, and believe in equal rights for every person! i have family members that really get CRAZY over who to put in office BUT they DONT VOTE, and that really gets me alittle PO'D i say if you arent going to vote [and i mean anyway you want, go out and vote R or D] than dont yell if who you wanted in office doesnt win, i have 2 family members that do this all the time, just yell away, but they NEVER have voted! i guess i just dont get those who yell about it, but dont even vote!

And I agree with you Sunkiss about anyone Democrat or Republican saying they will leave the country if the other party gets in office. What a great country that people can even
say
things like that.
I do think it may be time for a 3rd party.
For me,
each party has gotten a little too extreme. I'm a middle of the road, love everyone kind of girl also!

Politically, CPAMama and Sunkiss, that's what I call political pragmatism! That describes me to a "T", as well, except that I don't often even admit to having voted, though I do every time...my father tends to be a bit "preachy" and it's just not worth getting into with him!
And, CPAMama, I like you too, and now we know why!!

i went back, and watched Dan's interview to get alittle bit more feel of what he stands for, and who he is!..one thing that got me going Hmmmmm..was the fact that Dan is so young, to have these views, most people Dan's age, and mine were raised>>> education, education is the key to everything, both men, and women, i find it odd, that Dan in away is very old fashion about women, i dont think Dan is a woman hater, i think he moreless doesnt believe in the women's lib movement from the 60's JMO!
which brings me to this point, when i first got one tanning salon, i had a lady that was in her 40's that came to work for me! she finished high school, but didnt get the chance to farer her education [based on money, and things that had happen in her life] she doesnt work at my shop any longer, she moved to a different state, but i can remember the talks we shared, and she would break down, and cry. she told me it was hard, cuz men now days want women to make as much as they do, or even more, or they wont even think twice about dating you, muchless marrying you. she went on to say, that the women that are on TV [the news] saying women should do this or that, dont know how hard it is when you have nothing [no money] that those on TV can say the things they say cuz they can afford to say it [they have money] she flat out told me, that she didnt believe in women's lib, and didnt want other women to speak for her. PLEASE i am NOT saying ALL men are like this! i'm just saying this based on what i have heard, read, and seen..and in the study it showed that it was men that were raised from the 60's til this day! Dan was born way after the 60's
there was a poll, and a study taken about a year ago, 90% of men will NOT marry a woman that doesnt WORK! and make as much or more than them! I saw on National News![they had a men's group from all the states,in ages 20-40 that did state they would NOT marry a woman that doesnt work] plus they want the women to take care of the house, and kids, and look great, PLUS work outside of the home for money! this same study, and poll was done in the 70's and it was truned around 90% of men wanted thier wife to stay at home if she didnt want to work! dont get me wrong [I work] and i say more power to the women that want to go out , and be a powerhouse in the work -place...i am just saying that some women cant do that! and they are looked down on! by some men.[younger men]
this is why i find it odd that Dan really kinda thinks old fashion for a young man, really it is all about how one is raised, dont get me wrong, as of now i think Dan seems like a jerk, BUT not b/cuz he seems like he would like his wife to stay at home, instead of working, i dont know if he does think this way, but i got that feeling!!! he just comes across as a know it all, and kinda cocky, thats how i see him as being a jerk! i am going to watch this guy, if he doesnt get the boot fast! i would like to see if he shares any of his views with a HG or HGS...cuz i would like to know why at such a young age he thinks like this!

Because I feel sorry for the guy
I think Dan got the shaft by being AP last week... I'm really starting to like the guy. Don't know if this is REAL or not... got it on myspace, but figured I'd pass it on:

Holy Cow!! Look at this!! This explains a LOT about how a lot of us felt in the beginning and then toward the end...
quote:
Midseasonreplacements: In your preshow bio, it described you as pretty conservative politically, but when you got in the house you really kept that to yourself. Was that a conscious decision?
Dan: Definitely. I think anytime you bring politics into anything you are going to polarize people and I definitely did not want to do that. But here’s the thing I need to make clear because I talked to Monica about the perceptions of me going into the house and how they are were vastly different by the end of the season. I want it to be known that I started playing this game in the casting process. I knew they would not put a normal average Midwest teacher in the house so I had to say some things that I didn’t mean or didn’t even believe. So if you look at my bio , I haven’t had the chance to look at it. It’s pretty….
Midseasonreplacements: Exaggerated?
Dan: Yeah, very much so. I mean, Big Brother did not make that up. That stuff came out of my mouth, but I started playing this game in the casting process and I knew I had to do something extra to get into the house.

Yep...there's no denying, he's one of the best players to ever grace the Big Brother house! He deserved the 7-0 vote, for sure.
